Nell Boyle

Sustainability Coordinator

Nell Boyle, a LEED Accredited Professional, is the Sustainability Coordinator for the City of Roanoke. Serving the citizens of Roanoke by providing education and outreach to the community, Ms. Boyle is the voice of the city regarding green practices and environmental protection. In addition to these services, she monitors and analyzes the energy performance of the city’s facilities, as well the collecting and reporting community and municipal greenhouse gas emissions. She is responsible for the strategic implementation of city’s climate action initiative. Ms. Boyle previously served as the Director of Sustainable Practices at Breakell, Inc. where she directed the company’s sustainability initiative both in the office and on construction sites. Additional responsibilities included serving as an internal resource for environmental stewardship, and implementing procedures and training to enforce appropriate sustainable construction practices. She managed all LEED projects for the company and conducted continuing education for Breakell employees. For over a decade Ms. Boyle has been a volunteer for the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), serving in a variety of leadership roles. Currently, she serves on the Special Programs Working Group for the GreenBuild Conference. She has been an active member Resilient Virginia and is the Immediate Past Chair of its Board of Directors. She also serves on the Virginia Clean Cities board as well. She is a member of Urban Sustainability Director’s Network and its regional initiative, the Virginia Energy and Sustainability Peer Network, and other related professional associations.
