Greg Montgomery

Managing Director

Greg currently serves as the Managing Director of CleanSource Capital, the specialty finance affiliate of the Abundant Power Group, based in Charlotte, NC. Greg has spent his 33 year career assisting privately held business owners and entrepreneurs and their advisors in creating, growing, and capitalizing their businesses and monetizing the value in the same through devising and executing strategies in the capital markets. He has worked extensively with both financial parties, such as private equity groups, mezzanine lenders and senior lenders, as well as strategic parties, in executing transactions. For the past 15 years he has worked in the clean energy and energy efficiency sectors, arranging capital formation strategies for financing of projects that generate sustainable energy and savings while reducing dependence on fossil fuels and the associated emissions to help mitigate climate change. In his current role as the Managing Director of CleanSource Capital, Greg is involved in both the design and administration of energy efficiency financing programs based on the CleanSource SAVES platform, and the advising and structuring of financings for energy efficiency and clean energy projects and companies. SAVES programs operate in Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland, and collectively have provided over $250 million in funding for over 150 projects and companies involved in energy efficiency, renewable energy, distributed generation, alternative fuels and water conservation. In addition, through his role at CleanSource Capital, Greg has been involved as a founder of and on-going adviser to Nacelle Solutions, which provides field gas and bio gas conditioning services to the natural gas industry, and SustainRNG, which is commercializing a low solids anaerobic digester technology for optimizing the bio gas production from agricultural waste streams. Prior to joining Abundant Power as a Managing Partner, Greg was the Founder and Managing Director of MCF Advisors in Charlotte, NC, a boutique investment banking firm providing mergers and acquisitions advice and capital formation strategies to privately-held middle market businesses. Previously he was the Managing Director of the Royal Bank of Canada’s internal investment banking unit for its commercial banking operations based in Charlotte, and prior to that a co-founder and Managing Director of Capital Investment Partners, a private investment banking firm focused on small to middle market transactions in Raleigh, NC. Previously, Greg practiced corporate and securities law in Raleigh, NC and Baltimore, MD. Greg received a JD/MBA from Tulane University and a BA in Environmental Sciences from the University of Virginia. He is a member of the North Carolina and Maryland State Bars and a registered representative with FINRA holding multiple securities licenses. He is a past member of the Board of Directors and ex-President for the Charlotte chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth, and a past member of the Board of Managers for Camp Thunderbird which is affiliated with the Charlotte Greater Metropolitan YMCA. Greg and his wife reside in Gastonia, NC, where they are members of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. In addition to being an avid hiker, boater, and fisherman, Greg actively practices yoga and is working on his 500 hour teacher certification to pass along this life-transforming practice to others.
